Extract from Sheldrake news August 22nd 1863

On Monday last the return match was played on Frimley Green between eleven gentlemen of Frimley and eleven of Cambridge Town, which resulted in an easy victory for the latter, winning with five wickets to go down. A sumptuous luncheon with the usual et ceteras essential to the support of the stamina of the cricketer was provided in a spacious marquee, by Mr. Wright of The Cricketer's Inn, Frimley, to which ample justice was done. During the day a large concourse of visitors arrived on the ground, both equestrian, pedestrian and a goodly sprinkle of the fair sex, whose ruddy cheeks and merry laugh proclaimed them the true English village belles, and who heartily joined in the plaudits, which were loud and long when a well hit ball or cleverly bowled wicket was obtained; and to add to the amusements of the day an itinerant Zingari vendor of cocoa nuts and "dolls", upon the principle of three throws a penny, suddenly appeared upon the scene, who immediately opened shop and was soon in receipt of pence. On the termination of the match a move was made to the above mentioned Inn, where a first rate dinner was provided, and when the cloth was removed good will and harmony became the order of the evening.            The Sheldrake newspaper has many reports from local cricket clubs during the second half of the nineteenth century, below is a list of when local clubs first appear;
